Dental implants are the most exciting advancement in dentistry in the last hundred years and represent a quantum leap forward in our ability to replace missing teeth. They are artificial roots made of pure titanium that are placed into the upper or lower jaw by a dentist, oral surgeon or gum specialist. After a suitable period of healing, a porcelain crown is attached to the implant. The result is a highly durable, functional and attractive tooth that is often indistinguishable from a natural tooth. Implants can also provide a permanent solution to loose and unstable removable partial or complete dentures.
At Limestone Dental, we use a team approach to insure successful implant restorations. Before beginning, we meet with the specialist who will be placing the implant to fully plan your case and discuss the size, position and type of implants to be used. When the implant is ready for restoration, impressions are taken here in our office and the final restorations are made. Once the procedure is completed, patients often tell us that they cannot tell which teeth are their own and which teeth are implants!

What does getting dental implants involve?
The procedure for placing implants can be done in a number of ways and can vary depending on your own particular set of circumstances. In general, however, it takes several visits over period of months.
First, x-rays and impressions are taken to determine that sufficient bone, gum tissue, and space is available for an implant. After consultation with the implant placement specialist, the implant is placed into the bone. This is done with local, or sometimes general, anesthetic. The implant is allowed to heal for a few weeks to a few months, although in some very specialized circumstances, a temporary tooth can be placed within 24 hours.
After the appropriate healing time, impressions are taken for the final post and crown. After placement 2-3 weeks later, your new tooth is ready for use and can be treated like any normal tooth. Home care is simple - regular brushing and flossing with special attention to keeping the gum clean.
