Fixed Bridges

A fixed bridge is an excellent way to replace missing teeth. A porcelain tooth is anchored to the tooth on either side of a missing tooth by placing crowns on the adjacent teeth. There are no wires or clasps visible and the bridge does not have to be removed. Fixed bridges are used when the adjacent teeth are healthy enough to support the missing tooth and when implants are not an option.

Reasons for a fixed bridge:

  • Fill space of missing teeth.
  • Maintain facial shape.
  • Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position.
  • Restore chewing and speaking ability.
  • Restore your smile.
  • Upgrade from a removable partial denture to a permanent dental appliance.

What does getting a fixed bridge involve?

A fixed bridge usually requires two visits.  While the teeth are numb, the anchoring teeth are prepared by removing old fillings and enough enamel to create space for a crown.  Next, a highly accurate impression (mold) is taken and sent to our dental laboratory where the bridge is custom-made. A temporary bridge is placed to protect the teeth for about two weeks while the final bridge is being made.

At the second visit, the temporary bridge is removed, the final bridge is checked for proper fit and cemented into place. After a few minutes, it's ready to use.
